Sun Exposure- Excessive sun exposure damages the skin leading to wrinkles, blemishes and aging spot son your skin. Under extreme conditions you even experience inflammation and itching due to sun exposure. Preventing sun damage and reducing inflammation should be our primary concern if we want to prevent aging. Our body requires only 15 to 20 minutes of sun unprotected sun exposure for the requirement of vitamin D. Excessive exposure is harmful for the skin and makes you look old. So to protect your skin from aging one should apply sunscreen religiously. The use of sunscreen may not prevent tanning, but it will protect the skin from premature aging.

 

Lack of Sleep- Late night parties and office work may snatch away a lot of your sleep, but remember sleep deprivation is bound to leave a bad hangover on your skin. At night, the skin restores itself from the effects of daily stress. The eye part is worst effected due to lack of sleep. Dark circles and under-eye bags are the most common signs of fatigue caused by lack of sleep. Dermatologist, Dr. Rekha Shetty is of the opinion that, “Dark circles can be hereditary, but late nights can make the condition even worse. Irregular sleep patterns can be a contributing factor besides a low level of hemoglobin, which is caused due to lack of balanced diet. Any body suffering dark circle problem should take supplements. Eight hours of sleep every night is very important.”

 

Dieting- Dieting will make your skin look pale and lifeless. When you deprive your body of the required nutrition your skin gets affected first. As a result you get fine lines, wrinkled and sagging skin due to dieting. Crash dieting is a big no if you want to save your skin from irreparable damage. On the other hand the correct way to eat right and lose weight gives you a healthy and glowing skin. Avoid oily food and sweets and along with a good diet you need to have a good exercise regime. Drink at least eight to ten glasses of water.

 

Avoid alcohol – Just the next morning after a party when you have gulped down innumerable glasses of alcohol it shows on the skin. Alcohol consumption dehydrates the skin which may lead to premature aging and wrinkles. It is important to drink lots of water along with alcohol because it will put essential water back into your body.

 

Smoking damages skin- Smoking may make you look very cool and smart in a party, but it damages the skin. Smoking dehydrates the skin and even deprives it of essential oxygen. Smoking destroys the vitamin C in the body. Smoking restricts blood flow through the capillaries thus preventing oxygen and nutrients getting to the skin. So, if you are a smoker, quit smoking immediately to prevent it from aging.
