Long nights can bring on a long face especially because of low serotonin levels. There are ways to boost your serotonin levels. There are ways to boost your serotonin levels. In addition to bright light exposure and exercise, eat wisely. Eat carbohydrates sensibly.


Do not stuff yourself with sweets, white rice and white bread. Complex carbohydrates like potatoes, pasta and brown rice are good for health which will boost your serotonin level and improve your mood.


Watch your caffeine intake, since too much caffeine can suppress your serotonin. Eat proteins, vegetables and fruits. Include nuts, oatmeal, egg whites, whole grain bread and cottage cheese.


Nutritionists suggest eating food containing zinc such as lean meat, seafood, grains, cereals, dairy food and food rich in vitamin C are great mood listers.


Foods containing selenium- eggs, legumes, lentils etc are also good for keeping you in good mood Avoid refined and processed foods. Drink plenty of water and eat small meals.
