From the time we are born gender roles are assigned to us about how to behave and the fact that men cannot afford to show their emotions in public. It is taken for granted that men are excellent drivers and hence will not ask for directions. They are considered to be good with money matters and most importantly it is taken for granted that men don’t cry. But both Roger Federer and Amir Khan have proved this to be wrong. They have shown that men too can be emotional.

In our society everybody is forced to live with stereotype behaviours. Men are considered to be foolish if they cry in public or for that matter show affection to their loved ones. The society believes that men should follow the stoic philosophy and suppress their emotions.  But the scene is not the same as it used to be. People are accepting the concept of house husbands and the fact that men can cook, take care of kids, they can be emotional and men can stitch too.

Naval officer, Anirban Mitra says, “We live in a much freer society where we are not forced to behave is a stereotype way. When we feel like crying we cry. When we feel like showing our emotion to somebody we show without hesitation. As for myself If I feel like cooking for my wife on a Sunday, I do that without hesitation and I  take care of my son too and I love doing that. Doing all these things makes me a complete man and my wife and son loves me the way I am.” Men are sensitive and emotional to the needs of their partners. Suppresion of emotion is bad for health and can lead to heart problems.

There are some fathers who willingly take up the responsibility of dropping their sons to the school before going to office and at the same time give bath and feed their kids on Sundays. Men think parenting is a joint effort and hence should take care of the kids too.

Men these days are not one bit ashamed of taking care of themselves. They too go for their regular pedicure, manicures and facials without any hesitation. Psychologist, Dr. Seema Hingorani says, “It is a very positive change that we are seeing in the behavior of men. People too are accepting the fact that men are humans and hence they too have emotions and they can cry their heart out whenever they feel like. It is a bright change that people are running away from the stereotypical thought.”

Women too love men who are emotional and sensitive. They find that it is ridiculous that men cannot show their emotions. It is high time that our society should come out from this stereotypical believes that men cannot cry or show their emotions. It is indeed cruel on the part of society to think that boys don’t cry.
