Music, good books and a walk with dear friends can be simple ways to de stress. Computer professional Richa Trivedi says that she loves her work and that she does not get bogged down by the pressure of it. But there are bad days too for Richa. “There are days when I am really worried when things don’t work out the way I want it to,” says Richa. “I turn on the volume of my music system, play some old romantic songs and groove to it till I am feeling good about life again.”
For me a beautiful sunrise, a quiet afternoon nap, the smell of earth after the first rains makes me feel good and I have seen that gardening can be extremely therapeutic. I have a small terrace garden and I love to spend time with the plants. Cleaning them, watering them and talking to them makes me feel relaxed.
For some nothing can be more relaxing than a chat with someone with whom you bond well. Sudeshna Sinha, a teacher by profession says, “Whenever I am feeling low, I just dial my friends and we catch up about the happenings in each other’s lives. Little bit of gossip and loads of laughter with my friends helps to relax.”
Stress is a common phenomenon that attacks people at some point of time. But if you can reduce it and gradually eliminate it from your life and by doing this you will save yourself from prolonged psychological illnesses. Chatting for long hours with your friends also helps. A glass of fresh lime juice or ice-tea also refreshes me on a hot and humid day. Taking a quick power nap and doing meditation for few minutes also helps. Take care of yourself and stay away from alcohol and smoking. Eat on time, sleep for six to eight hours and include a little bit of exercise in your life on a regular basis.
