Sugarless coffees, no carbonated drinks, cant take in that cube of chocolate, no sweets for Diwali, no rice on daily basis, prick on the finger every morning and the list goes on and on and on.  What is this list all about? Yes, it is all about living with diabetes. It is highly stressful to live with diabetes, as it not only restricts too much on the diet being consumed but also lots of modification on ones lifestyle. This includes an endless list again such as foot care, skin care, monitoring of blood sugar etc.

Many are insulin dependant while some are non-insulin dependant. This is because of the functioning of the pancreas and its secretion. What happens as soon as one is being diagnosed as diabetic is that they get into the impression they are dependent on medications for all their life. It may be true but not in all cases. Many are now onto consumption of herbal remedies that give in a lot of benefits and allow you to waive off the intake of medicines (on doctors advice) on a long-term basis.

Few herbal remedies to bring down your sugar levels are as follows:

Ladies finger (Bhindi):

Ladies finger as we all know is a wonderful vegetable that is filled with nutrients. All you need to do with this vegetable to bring down the sugar level is take two ladies finger, wash them thoroughly, cut both the ends, slit them in the center (let one end be intact), place them in a glass of drinking water over night. Once you wake up, remove the ladies finger (if you want can also mash it and strain the water) and drink that water on empty stomach. No other intake for 30 minutes. Follow it for two months and the results are amazing. Believe me my mother follows it.

Bitter gourd (Karela):

Many might hate this vegetable. But it has the wonderful property of bringing down and controlling the sugar level. Take 3 to 4 bitter guard, remove the seeds, blend it in juicer and drink the juice on empty stomach. You can also boil the bitter gourd by adding salt, turmeric powder, onion and garlic and then drink the water. Both are beneficial on the long run to control diabetes.

Fenugreek (Methi):

These small yellow seeds are filled with benefits. Soak two spoonfuls of fenugreek seeds in a bowl of water over night and on empty stomach consume this water. Follow this regularly for two to three months and find the difference in the sugar levels.

Please note:

  • Always get the advise of your doctor before discontinuing the medicines
  • Follow any one remedy at a time and do not mix all together as reactions may occur
  • If you are allergic to any of these vegetables please do not consume the same

Many have benefited from these remedies and I am sure it can help you too. For some though it might not be advisable to discontinue the medications completely, these remedies may help to bring down the dosage level of medicines being consumed.

Have a great start.
