However it is not necessary that the exercise one plans to do should be expensive to get results and the program could start with an inexpensive and easy exercise like walking.

The best recommendation offered by most diabetologists is that it is good to start with moderate exercises for about 30 minutes a day for at least 6 days in a week. Diabetics on medication would do well to be near a place where emergency help would be available in case of need; this mainly applies to diabetics who are senior citizens. It is best to make sure that the weather conditions are ideal and that one wears the proper attire while exercising.

The choice of exercising depends on ones own choice. Some may prefer to start exercising like walking or jogging with their spouse, child or grandchild, while others may prefer to start exercising with a personal trainer. Diabetics who prefer to do exercises at their own pace can opt to do exercises like walking, swimming, running, hiking, skiing or play simple games that involve physical movements.

Diabetics may also opt to follow exercises displayed on the television or buy videos of such exercises. Deciding to do gardening, mowing of the lawn and mopping the floor can be good exercises. Strength training has helped Type 2 diabetics to increase their muscles, decrease their body weight and get over feelings of depression and helped build self-confidence and positive thinking.

Well these activities could also be good as they keep especially senior citizens who are diabetics motivated to exercise because they enjoy social interactions.

One may find that he may not have made a right choice of exercise at first. He may experience problems and other health issues. However they should not lose heart and consult a health care provider who could help make the choice about the right exercise and style of exercise like people finding it difficult to do yoga exercises could be suggested to do chair yoga exercises. Besides group exercise instructors could advice posture modifications and decreasing intensity of exercise.

Some diabetics’ especially senior citizens may find it difficult to start right away doing exercises. However they could increase their physical activity by parking their car a few blocks away from work or a shopping mal and walking to and from work or the mal. Similarly they can do a few stretches during commercial breaks on television, dance to their favorite music at home, enjoy a game of tennis with their children or grandchildren, opt to take the grandchildren to a park to engage them and play with them, help in mowing the lawn, or vacuuming the house at times.
