We all know that they are loaded with nutrients and are ideal for weight management. Greens reduce the risk of heart diseases and cancer.

 

Greens are low in fat rich in dietary fiibre, folic acid and vitamin C. Their high magnesium content and low gycemic index make them invaluable for people with type 2 diabetes. Greens contain one of the highest levels of naturally occurring vitamin K, a nutrient important in the production of osteocalcin, which is a protein essential for bone health and helps ward off osteoporosis.

 

Green vegetables are a major source of iron, calcium, beta carotene and Vitamin A which helps to improve the immunity.

 

Lutein and zeaxanthin are carotenoids found in dark greenleafy vegetables, it protects the eyes from both cataract and age related macular degeneration, a major cause of blindness. Greens are a powerhouse of anti-cancer antioxidants such as carotenoids, flavonoids and quercetin. Brussels sprouts and broccoli are rich in indoles and isothicyanates, which protects against colon cancer. A higher consumption of green leafy vegetables had been shown to significantly decrease the risk of breast cancer and skin cancer.
