Gestational diabetes happens when women are expecting. Being a mother is a wonderful experience, but with it comes a lot of health problems. Expecting mothers should take extra care about themselves to have a healthy and normal baby.

Gestational diabetes develops only during pregnancy and the main cause is nothing but stress. Pregnancy is the most stressful time for a woman’s mind and body and so gestational diabetes is also becoming common for pregnant women these days. Gestational diabetes happens when the body is unable to produce enough insulin and this in turn increases the blood glucose level.

Gestational diabetes needs to be treated because it can lead to hypertension, kidney disease and in some cases large babies. When the baby is born there is a tendency for the baby to have low blood sugar or jaundice. After the delivery women can develop type 2 diabetes.

Pregnancy can still be a happy experience if treatment for gestational diabetes is done with a few lifestyle changes. Little dietary changes along with light exercises are a must. Do not starve your self, but be a little careful with your diet and learn to give insulin injections.
