Holistic nursing is special subject of nursing practice that teaches us healing the whole person as its goal. This is a philosophy of nursing practice that takes care into account total patient care considering the physical , emotional ,social, economic and spiritual needs of patient. Their response to their illness and the body and spirit with their environment. Holistic nursing is a nursing specialty concerned with the integration of a persons mind body and spirit with their environment.

Many nurses who embrace holistic concepts of care work in acute care settings while others may be community based or have their own private practice. History Holistic nursing received special priority in 2006 when it was officially recognised by the American Nurses Association as a defined nursing speciality. Holistic nursing calls upon nurses to integrate self care reflection and the healing process in their own lives as the care for patients.

Purpose of Holistic Nursing. The holistic nurse recognises the interconnection of health and illness and strives to facilitate healing of the body mind and spirit at any point among the spectrum. Holistic nursing has been called the heart and science of nursing. Holistic nurses honour each individual subjective experience about health ,health beliefs and values The practice of holistic nursing requires nurses to integrate self care, self responsibility spiritual and reflection in their lives.This may lead the nurse to greater awareness of the interconnectedness with self, others nature and spirit. Holistic nursing is a medical speciality that takes entire being of the patient into consideration rather than just diagnosing specific physical symptoms.

Holistic nurses often recommend complementary medical trearment to assist patients in attaining better health . The nurse becomes a partner with patients by forging interpersonnel and lasting relationships. Holistic nurse is a Degreed Professional Registered Nurse or licensed practical nurse with an additional education in holistic nursing ,usually a certificate or a degre. In addition to assisting the patients physical condition. Holistic nurse will review the patients history upbringing religious Affliations and any other aspect that might affect the patients life . Nurses who are trained in holistic healthcare practices ,other work in hospice settings and long term care facalities.
