One of the very first decision you would be required to make as a new parent is- whether to use cloth diapers or disposable diapers for your newborn? This decision will have a great impact on the baby’s health and comfort; environment and your finances. One cannot really point out the best type of diaper which is good for every baby. Both variants of diapers have their own set of pros and cons and so it is a matter of personal preference, lifestyle, finances and environmental concerns while making a choice between the different types of diapers available in the market.
Many times it has been seen that parents combine using cloth and disposable diapers. They use cloth diapers while at home and disposable ones while going out. Another important thing to remember is that what may suit your friend and her baby might not necessarily suit you and your baby. The best thing to do is to understand the advantages and disadvantages between cloth and disposable diapers, discuss the issue with your doctor, talk with your spouse and take a decision accordingly. Even after you arrive at some decision it may so happen that the baby develops a diaper rash or has some kind of allergic reaction which means that you will have to switch over to some different brand or go from cloth diaper to disposable diaper or vice-versa.
But it has been observed that the incidence of diaper rash is less among babies who wear cloth diapers. With cloth diapers mothers can easily monitor the baby’s urine output and change the diaper as soon as it gets wet. However with disposable diapers the baby might remain in contact with the urine for a longer time as it is not easy to tell how wet a disposable diaper is. This might increase the incidence of diaper rashes.
Again cloth diapers are more comfortable than disposable diapers. Touch a cloth diaper and then the inside of a disposable diaper and check for yourself which is more comfortable. If disposable diapers were so comfortable wouldn’t we all be wearing disposable underwear?
