Have you heard about the Hedonist diet?

This piece is for those who love to indulge in the pleasures of eating but are constantly depriving  themselves of it.

Well the father of all foodies, Greek philosopher, Epicurus, was a hedonist.  Hedonists call pleasure the beginning and end of blessed life. Hedonism of any sort seems antithetical to diets. Deprivation leads people to wind up becoming fatter. The idea of conscious indulgence is for those watching the scale.

So always eat a fatty breakfast. Bacon and eggs for breakfast can be the right way to kick off your day. Mice that ate a carb rich breakfast have a higher rate of metabolism than those who ate a carb rich food at the end of the day.

Caffeine enhances physical performance and endurance. It not only mobilizes fat to fuel you as you work up a sweat, but according to numerous studies, it also improves endurance, allowing you to work out longer. Keri Glassman, a nutritionist in New York City says coffee is one of the best sources of antioxidants. Keri says that it is not as dehydrating as it was previously thought to be and hence it can be counted as your daily fluid intake.

When you are hungry, just indulge. The more you deprive yourself, the hungrier you will be. So if you have a strong craving for eating a bar of chocolate, don’t look out for a bar that is made up of healthy cereals like oats and wheat flakes. Just indulge yourself in chocolates because the healthy bar eaters are always hungry. Nutritionist, Samridhi Sharma says, “If you indulge too much in virtuous eating, you will end up neglecting your satisfaction and you will find yourself indulging in a jar of cookies at bed time.”

There are many snacks in the market that are labeled as baked or low fat or organic. But when you are indulging in this so called healthy food that does not mean you will not keep a count of it. “Always look out for food that you like, if you decide that you will eat only organic or low fat food there is a tendency that you will over-eat. Over eating healthy food also leads to weight gain. Pick a food that you will truly enjoy, that way you won’t go looking for something more to satisfy your cravings.”

Relish each and every bite of the food. Don’t just gobble it down when you are working on the computer. When you are doing something else and eating at the same time, there is a tendency to either over-eat or not being satisfied with what you have eaten so just chew and enjoy every portion that you eat. Scientists at the University of Pennsylvania have found out that at McDonald’s, the French eat less and slowly as compared to the Americans. And hence Americans are all over-weight.

Stay away from constant food maths. If you restrict yourself too much from eating you will end up decreasing weight loss. Calorie counting is considered to be an old fashioned and it is extremely tedious to keep track of what you have eaten. Glassman encourages her clients to choose indulgences like tiramisu and chocolate soufflé because she says that we don’t eat this on a regular basis. Since it is not possible to indulge in it on a regular basis, it will definitely not become a habit. And last, but not the least sleep well because if you don’t sleep in the night then your hunger hormones increases and you tend to binge. Eight hours of sleep is very important for everybody. Eat well and be happy by following the Hedonist's principle .
