Asexuality is a state when even after marriage you don’t feel the urge to have sex. Sukaniya Raman, a good friend of mine knew her ex-husband from the age of sixteen. Initially it was all about holding hands and being on the phone for hours. Then when she finally got married at the age of twenty, she realized that her husband was just not interested in sex.

Sukaniya’s self-esteem was hurt. For years they did not have sex and hence did not have any kids from her marriage. In spite of knowing that he loved her she had to walk out of the marriage. It was a tough decision for her to walk out of the marriage and her ex-husband is still single. This is a classic case of asexuality and how it can damage your married life.

Asexuality is slowly making way to clinical research the world over. Asexuality is different from sexual aversion disorder, where patients experience extreme anxiety and panic attacks when presented with a sexual opportunity. However people have the tendency to hide homosexuality behind the banner of asexuality. Asexuality happens due to phobia of sex, or a childhood trauma.

Asexuality is a sexual orientation. Like any other normal human beings they have the same emotional needs as everybody else and are just as capable of forming intimate relationships. But when it comes to sexual needs they shy away from it. It is just that they do not need anything physical.
