Are you acquainted with someone who is addicted to alcohol cigarettes or drugs? I might not be sure about you, but I knew such people. I could realize the imperativeness of rehabilitation only after I saw them suffer from anguish and mental illness.

At times the addiction issue becomes so difficult and complicated that it makes you feel there is simply no way out. Though drug rehab programmers such as Narconon may help but the number of addicts seeking help is very less for reasons unknown.

Many collegians resort to smoking and drugs because they find them as easy options to deal with stressful conditions, unaware f their long and deep lethal effects.

Some teenagers also take drugs because of peer group pressure, academic pressure, and weak relationships with their parents, etc. They are ignorant about the impending threats of such addictions in the long run.

Substance abuse is a chronic recurring disease while the user is a compulsive addict.

It is seen that drug addicts try to maintain a low profile and keep their symptoms hidden from family and relatives.

Some of the commonly used drugs are cocaine, heroin, barbiturates, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), and a number of other opiates.

Common Symptoms of Drug Addiction:

1.  Drug tolerance: You require more quantity of drug to have the effect produced by small dose previously.

2.   You take drugs to get rid of withdrawal symptoms: If you have been taking drugs since a long time, you might develop insomnia, depression, anxiety or excessive sweating.

3.  No control over drug use: You want to stop drugs but feel unable to do so. You seem to be ruled by drugs and are a mere slave to them.

4.   Life revolves around drugs: You spend most of your time thinking about drugs, their effects and ways to get rid of them.

5.  No time for other activities: With drug addiction, you have almost abandoned hobbies like sports, music and socializing, just because of drug abuse and addiction.

6.   You know addiction is harmful: Despite of being well versed with the fact that drug addiction will ultimately destroy you, you are unable to avoid it.

The first substantial step towards a speedy recovery from addiction is the acceptance of addiction and the willingness to overcome it. If you are determined to get rid of your addiction, believe me, half the job is done.

Cooperation from friends and support from the family are extremely important for recovery and rehabilitation from any addiction. You will always require support whenever you visit a rehabilitation centre or a self help program.

Recovery will be speedy, easy and less painful with friends and family members around who will provide the much needed moral support and encouragement.
