A male contraceptive that is creating quite a buzz is ready for the Indian market as well. Initially there were only two options left for men either to use a condom or to get a vasectomy done. Condoms cannot be always relied on and vasectomy can be irreversible. But this male contraceptive with a single jab you can stay infertile and when you feel like having a child another injection can make you fertile. Since this contraceptive is hormone based it is safe for use.
Gynecologist Dr. Kajal Bose says, “Men seem to have already started showing interest in it. I am getting patients every day in my chamber asking about this contraceptive.” In vasectomy, the sperm tube is cut off stopping the sperm produced from coming out. But by this contraceptive you are injecting non-hormonal polymer in the sperm tube.
Polymer takes away the natural energy of the sperm by making it non active. Because of the reduced motility the sperm does not reach the egg cell. Both the injections to become infertile and regain fertility are given under local anesthesia. The only side effect that is noticed is the swelling of the scrotum.
