Nowadays some companies are changing the combination of drugs without changing the brand names. The government has brought some regulation to control the prices of drugs which are widely used in Medical field. Due to price control, these companies are changing the composition of drugs without intimating to doctors. For example, Salbutamol is widely prescribed by doctors for Respiratory disorders. Due to price regulation, syrups containing Salbutamol should not be sold more than approximately Rs.15.  Due to deep price slash some companies are marketing syrup containing salbutamol and have changed the content to Terbutaline or Levo-Salbutamol in the place of Salbutamol.

The reason for this change is that manufacturers don’t want to reduce the price of medicines. To change the medicine’s content without changing the Brand, government should bring some regulation. The combination of drugs such as Ampicilline + Cloxacilline has changed to Ampicillin+ Dicloxacillin.

Vitamin E containing formulation is also under price control. This has made manufactures to change the formulation of brands which are under ‘drug’ category to ‘dietary supplement’.
