Urine Proteomics – Biomarker Discovery for detecting Kidney Diseases.

Water is an essential and critical element to the human body and lack of it leads to many suffering from renal disorders. Healthcare Professionals recommend the urine test at various diagnostic centers for detection of any biomarkers present in it which can lead to the discovery of the kidney malfunctioning. Urine is one of the most abundant available fluids for clinical tests and is noninvasive as it contains sufficient proteins and peptides. This new area of urine proteomics is rapidly developing and is applied for the detection of various problems such as nephropathy, acute kidney injury and renal allograft rejection.

Urine is also used to detect diabetes mellitus as suggested by physicians. The methods to profile urine helped the researchers to reach thousands of peptides and proteins for various biomarkers for urogenital tract, heart diseases, ovarian cancer and pancreatitis. LC/MS is mostly used to analyze and diagnose the disease. This in turn enables for further diagnosis and therapy from an early stage. The assay development is on the rise and is collaborated among the various doctors, healthcare professionals , biologists and clinicians.

Treatment

Some chronic kidney disease has no cure and treatment normally consists of measures to reduce the symptoms and complications. It might include

  • High Blood Pressure treatment
  • Treatment to Low Cholesterol
  • Treat Anemia
  • Treat swelling
  • Medications to protect bones

Treatment for end stage kidney disease

There are patients who reach the end stage where the kidneys can no longer help in clearance of the fluids and this develops into a complete kidney failure. At this stage, most of the victims opt for kidney transplant if possible. The other option is the dialysis.

  • Dialysis
  • Kidney Transplant

A complete shutdown of the kidney means the patient has a few months to a few years in some cases to survive. This causes a toxic environment inside the human body where it fails to recycle the fluids.

Future Treatments

Research and Experimentation conducted around the globe for damaged tissues and organs offer a light of hope for the coming generations. 3D Organ Printing and Regenerative Medicine are something which we can look forward to in case of absolute shutdown and damage of the organs.

The regenerative medicine is showing some positive results where

The body learns to repair the damaged tissues.

A part of the healthy cell from a living or a dead person can be applied to the damaged ones.

Delivering specific kinds of cells or cells products to the diseased parts would restore the function back to normalcy.

It is not a 100% success rate but in this way the intrusion of the damage can be slowed down and the expectancy of the patient can be increased by months to years.
