When I was a kid, I have seen many movies with the same dialogue in all of them which is , ‘ relationships are made in heaven’ or “God has definitely sent ‘the one’ to be with you throughout your life, and that person is your soul mate”. But when I grew up, I had to face a great difficulty finding ‘the one’ from the ocean of millions of strange people. Thank god by the time I was 18, social networking came into existence and it made my work easy, and I was introduced to online dating. But is online dating really a boon for all the singles out there desperately waiting to meet their soul mate, or is it the new booty call!

Online dating is a trend in which men and women try to find the right person without any hassle. He or she might be seven seas away or the next door neighbor, online dating makes it easy for all of us. It has taken internet by storm and is the most happening activity amongst people of all age group. There are people who met through online dating sites, got married and are living happily ever after and there is a group of people who swore not to fall for people with extraordinary profile uploaded in their accounts. There are several pros and cons and we will see them all.

The pros of online dating, well, you don’t have to roam round the world to find your love. Just a click and you get a list of options. You can save some of your time in figuring what to wear to impress the person and save yourself from some disastrous first dates. You have to agree that people, somewhere are smart enough to know whom to avoid and with whom they can get a little friendly. You could be lucky to catch a winner or sometimes completely waste your time chatting with a loser. You can know the person before going out for a real date and be comfortable.

The cons or say the risks of online dating are just the opposite. It is hard to tell that the person you are looking at is actually how he or she claimed in their profiles or just trying to get some attention. There are millions of fake profiles and there are high chances that you might fall for a wrong person, which might lead to weeks of depressions and bitter memories. Then you need to be careful as your phone numbers and profile pictures can be misused.

Gone are those days when people used to write letters and send it to their lovers. They used to wait for weeks for a reply. Now it hardly takes a second to convey your feelings, thanks to e-mail. Now we don’t have to try to find any friend of friend who might be single and good looking, we just have to go through profiles and everything comes in one screen. But it is important to know, not everyone is honest and truthful. I found my soul mate wandering in the jungle of pretty girls, looking for me and I saved him right on time, but it is not assured for anyone whether they will enjoy the positive outcome or have to deal with bitter experience. Besides, online dating could be fun and a stress-buster when you just need a person to talk to and kick the blues out of your life. But don’t forget to play safe.
