Obsessing Over Health

In the long run obsessing over health can turn seemingly ‘healthy’ nutrients into a potential hazard.

WATER- Water is good for skin and it flushes out toxin from the body. However excessive intake of water can turn fatal. We should stick to eight glasses of water and should not exceed it. But people still gulp down bottles of water because they think it is a passport to good health. But they seldom realize that this way they put themselves at a risk of hyper hydration.

What many people do not realize is that when we perspire we lose water and salt. Indiscriminately having water with very less sodium can lead to chemical imbalance in the body. This chemical imbalance can lead to lethargy and state of confusion.

VITAMINS- It is rarely seen that someone overdoing the vitamin intake through diet. But just merrily popping vitamin pills can have a negative effect in the body. Overdose of Vitamin A can lead to irreversible damage of the bones which in the long run can harm the liver. Having excessive vitamin A during pregnancy can lead to birth defects of the child.

Overdose of Vitamin B1 may create a deficiency of Vitamin B2 and Vitamin B6. That’s because all vitamin Bs are closely related. It causes harm to the nervous system and may lead to deadening of certain nerves. As a result of which persons may face problems doing tasks that require simple body coordination. Vitamin C can lead to diarrhea and which in turn affect the utilization of copper in the body. Vitamin D is important for the formation of bone and teeth. But overdose of Vitamin D can lead to hypocalcaemia. This can lead to fatigue, nausea, depression and vomiting.

PROTEINS- Too much of protein in the body can make the blood acidic. As soon as the body gets to know that, it releases basic elements in the blood and the most basic element in our body is calcium. Excess calcium in the body means less for the bones. This is the way the bones develop a tendency for fracture and at the same time it puts you at a risk of osteoporosis. Too much calcium in the body can also lead to kidney stones.

Fitness experts sometimes recommend to go high on protein and to reduce the intake of carbohydrates. But never go by what they say all the time. Since carbohydrates are a main source of energy and you are not getting it from it then the body will look towards fat or protein for its energy and this in the long run can be harmful for the liver. Metabolizing protein is difficult and hence it causes stress to the liver.
