Most of us wish to be energetic at 60, though factors like stress lack of physical activity, pollution and lack of a balanced wholesome diet take a toll on our life and make us weak by 60. Gone are the days of grandparents pampering their grandchildren with home made delicious foods and sweets, taking them for nature walks, and playing with them on their lawn. The reason why people are not energetic at 60 is that they do not take the proper diet and exercise to feel energetic at the age of 60. 

 

Yes, diet does play a vital role in keeping a person energetic at 60. It is very important that one has a good balanced diet. In olden days people ate homemade food that was pure, of good quality and unpolluted. They also did a lot of physical work that helped them feel energetic and lose weight. In today’s computer world where most people sit for long hours at the computer, besides opting for double income families, there has been an increase in the number of people opting for fast foods and food in restaurants and hotels which may be expensive but of poor or unhealthy quality.

 

It is quite right that people get used to eating foods with high salt, sugar, spices and saturated fats that affects their health. The use of processed or prepared foods that just involve preparation for a few minutes can never substitute the value of natural food. The philosophy of the people today is that they believe in just eating for survival rather than living, which proves to be highly disagreeable to health.

 

A good and nutritious diet is required to be energetic at 60. It is true that one should eat food that can be easily digested. So food that is included in ones diet should be well cooked with preserving of all the nutrients. Fresh fruits and vegetables help to provide fiber and the essential vitamins and minerals to lead a good life. Besides they provide good source of moisture too and help rid the body of toxins and pollutants that are ingested in our body by means of water, air and food.

 

In addition make sure to wash fruits and vegetables well before direct consumption or before cutting to be cooked. Do take adequate quantity of water and fluids like fruit juices and coconut water in summer. In addition, reducing use of spices, salt and sugar with age can help feel good and energetic. Do cultivate the habit of eating small quantities of nutritious foods at regular intervals to maintain your energy level.

 

Kick the habit of drinking coffee or tea often and do give up smoking and drinking. Drinking coffee and tea in moderation helps to make one feel fresh and energetic, but if taken in excess they only sap your energy. Smoking and drinking are harmful and cause serious damage to the kidney, liver and are the main reason for various types of cancers. Also resist the temptation to drink aerated drinks and opt for fruit juices, milk shakes and coconut water. If you must have something hot or warm opt for drinking warm water with some sugar added to it.

 

Opt for a vegetarian diet by taking a lot of fiber like whole grains, bran cereals, flaxseeds and salad vegetables like carrots, beetroot, radish, Lettuce, tomato and onions. Besides it is best to take leafy vegetables like spinach, broccoli, parsley, blackberry and prunes. They help cleanse the system. Non-vegetarian diet is richer in fats and not easily digested. Also they could be the ground to getting infection if the animal product is infected or not properly processed. However it is all right to take fish in moderation.

 

Yes exercise helps to be energetic at 60, by allowing blood to travel better to the lungs and other parts of the body.  Ones body temperament; time and choice could determine the exercise one does to feel energetic. Some may opt to do walking regularly since it is the cheapest and most easy form of exercise. Your only investment would be your time and a pair of walking shoes (if your prefer one) and you would be sure to enjoy the morning breeze too.

 

Aerobics may interest others as also jogging or running. Jogging and running prove to be more strenuous than walking and may not suit all. Besides they could be started after a few months of walking. Jogging and running help pump blood better besides being good for weight loss and energy. Swimming and cycling could also be ideal exercises too.  Gyms can also help to feel good and energetic but are expensive and beyond the reach of a common man.

 

Yes, walking and cycling to nearby places can help feel energetic and cut down pollution by motorized vehicles. One should keep active and energetic by parking ones car a few blocks away from work and walk the distance to and fro to work and cut down on pollution rates and make one feel energetic. One could opt to go by public transport too saving on environment pollution and getting exercise walking to and fro from the bus stations.
