*Always make it a point to go to the weekly farmer’s market or the subzi madi. Keep all the veggies and fruit sin separate packets and refrigerate in the fridge.

 *If you are going to the super market be cautious about when the fresh produce came in. And always check the dates of the frozen veggies.

 *You can make out the freshness of melons by just smelling it. Avoid anything that smells bad. If you are buying lady fingers break the tips and see, when you are looking for green leafy vegetables make it a point to find out that they are not unnaturally big and does not have holes in them.

 

Things you must eat:

 Cabbage-Both green and red cabbage is a highly nutritive food with several disease fighting properties. It protects the body from free radicals and helps to fight against carcinogens. The fibre content improves digestion and tones the intestinal tract. Buy fresh looking fresh green cabbages.

 Mushrooms- They lower one’s cholesterol level, improves immunity and are good for diabetics. When buying button mushrooms, watch out for blemishes or browning. If they are blackish or brownish in colour then they are stale. Buy mushrooms only with clean white caps.

 Asparagus- It is an excellent source of B vitamins, vitamin K and minerals such as copper and potassium. When buying you should be careful that the stalks are fairly thin and tender, yet firm. The bud son top of the stalks should not be open. They are available in the super markets both fresh and tinned.

 Broccoli- It is generally available in most metropolitan cities. It is rich in Vitamin C and folic acid.  It is rich in fibre and helps in digestion too. When buying broccoli be careful that its edges and not yellow or brown.
