Dealing with Anger

Every day when we open the newspaper we read about road rage, violence and murder.  The only thing I can say is that today’s generation lacks self control and they just get angry too fast. But there are some tips to get rid of anger:

Count up to ten before reacting. Although it sounds very basic, it really helps diffuse your temper. Try some variations of counting up to ten. For instance take a deep breath between each number. If you are getting into heated arguments ask for time out. Just excuse yourself and move out of the discussion. This way you can calm yourself and come back after five minutes.

When we are in the heat of anger we tend to take wrong decisions and we tend to lose our temper. It is healthy to express it in a non-confrontational manner. Keeping your frustration bottled will only make the situation worse. Don’t use sarcasm, but use humour to release tension and to calm down.

Be futuristic. Ask yourself the object of anger will matter one year from now? Identify the solutions to the situation. Instead of focusing on what made you and, work and talk out with the person who angered you to resolve the issue at hand.

Skills to relax and de-stress can also help to control temper, whether it is by visualizing a relaxing scene, listening to music or doing yoga.
