Hypothyroidism- Over 26 million Americans suffer from hypothyroidism while less than 1/3 of them are diagnosed or treated correctly. It is impossible to control your weight as long as your thyroid does not function properly. The symptoms of hypothyroidism are weight gain, fatigue, cold intolerance and poor mental function.

Nutritional deficiencies- If you have any kind of vitamin deficiency or mineral deficiency you will have food cravings. Eventually you will end up eating more than required which will make your metabolism sluggish and result in weight gain.

Insulin resistance- Due to this the insulin secretion increases which results in excessive fat production.

Inadequate sleep- Deep sleep regulates the appetite controlling hormones leptin and ghrelin. It is a major trigger for growth hormone production. Growth hormone stimulates production of muscle and improves insulin sensitivity. 8-9 hours of sleep every night helps staying young and trim!

Yeast overgrowth- Clinical experience has shown that fungal (i.e. Candida/yeast) overgrowth contributes to sugar cravings and weight gain. The exact mechanism for this is unknown. But once this condition is treated excess weight gain can also be controlled.
