6 year old tonsillectomy

My six year old son has had a tonsillectomy and adenoids removed only one week ago.  He is constantly spitting. He also complains of sore throat, ears and mouth.  He has oral thrush for which i am treating with daktarin oral gell.  My dauter had the same procedure two years ago and didn't seem to carry on as much.  He is constantly crying and in pain.  Nights are better now but the day is driving me crazy.  Teh medication is panadole and codine for which i am giving as required if not sooner some times.  I am also giving him Pain stop at night.  Please help
