2011 World Blood Donor Day @ Prathama

Prathama Blood Centre Ahmedabad celebrates World Blood Donor Day every year since 2005. It has popularized the event in city of Ahmedabad in Gujarat, India which is having highest 3.6% blood donor ratio in India. Prathama is having more than 200000 registered voluntary blood donors in the city and they regularly donate blood.

On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day 2011, Prathama felicitates its 'Silver Jubilee' blood donors every year. WBDD Drives are organized at more than 6 locations in the city where 1000 voluntary non remunerative blood donors come forward to donate blood.

Various events are scheduled for a week starting from 14th June 2011 to 20th June 2011. It is estimated that more than 50 organizations participate in the event. Lions Clubs are also joining Prathama to celebrate World Blood Donor Day. A RED T-shirt with slogan "more blood more life" is prepared and is given to 100 volunteers to promote WBDD 2011. On this day marking the contribution of voluntary blood donors to the city, a momento is also designed.

Media is also joined to popularize the event. Famous FM Channel Radio Mirchi and news paper Divya Bhaskar joined Prathama to celebrate WBDD 2011. Blood Donoration Drives will be organized for a week at 50 different locations. Children of Blood Donors will showcase their talent and Blood Donors are given gifts, sweets, and enjoy the day through out. City malls are roped in to make the event even more colorful.

More than 1500 voluntary blood donors visited the places anounced by Prathama on 14th June world blood donor day 2011 and 1193 actually donated blood to express their solidarity and support to the movement. As stated earlier, Prathama is the single largest stand alone blood bank in India that encouraged 100% non-remunerated voluntary blood donation from day 1 of its inception. Ahmedabad city with 5 million population in Gujarat, India has welcomed this initiative of Prathama. More than 250,000 voluntary blood donors are registered with Prathama and they regularly donate blood at 600 plus blood drive and over 3000 Blood Mobile Van sessions through out the year.

The day was celebrated with lot of events like talent show, drawing competetion, singing competition for children of blood donors. drive sites were decorated and informative material on voluntary blood donation was distributed on this day.
