A Pernicious Tendency
Of late, there has been a growing vicious tendency among certain sections of public to find fault with the doctors & paramedical staff just because they can’t bring the dead to life!! The usual story is the patient is brought in a moribund condition to an Emergency hospital after all that shunting from one hospital to another. And when a brave doctor takes up such a case on humanitarian grounds and can’t revive the patient, bad news spreads like fire and the relatives, friends and local politicians contend that the doctor is somehow responsible for the death. Sometimes their displeasure rises to dangerous proportions resulting in vandalism and violence. The recent incident of manhandling the Casualty Medical Officer in the prestigious KGH, Vizag is an eye-opener. Such incidents make any doctor to be wary of taking up any Emergency, even though the chances of recovery are good. The result: precious lives will be lost! Hence it is high time all of us fight this dangerous social malady.
