Women watching their weight and diligently following a Mediterranean style diet that is rich in vegetables,vegetable oils,fish and beans may boost their chances of becoming pregnant,according to dieticians.
Brooke Schanz MS,RD said that establishing a healthy eating pattern and weight is the first good step for women who are looking to conceive.
Brooke also said not only will a healthy diet and lifestyle changes promote conception but also it is important for foetal well being and reduces the risk of complications during pregnancy.
Schanz said that reduced intake of foods rich in transfats and saturated fats and increasing intake of mono saturated fats like avocado and olive oil could help women conceive.
Another important tip is to decrease intake of animal protein and add more vegetables and fiber to their diet.
Brooke said that includig more vegetable sources of iron like legumes,tofu,nuts,seeds and whole grains may help women conceive.
Mediterranean-Style Bean Salad
50 grams boiled green beans,
1/4 cup chopped parsley (or celery leaves)
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
A pinch of salt
Method:
Combine everything in a bowl. Chill for 2 hours before serving for best flavor.\
Mediterranean-Style-Lettuce and mushroom salad
Ingredients:
chopped & diced lettuce leaves-2 cups
1/4 cup cooked mushrooms, sliced
1/2 cup cooked beans
1/4 cup cooked peas
Dressing
1 clove garlic, chopped or pressed
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tbs exra virgin olive oil
Directions:
Place lettuce in large bowl and top with remaining ingredients.
