Minimal access surgery or laparoscopic surgery has come to stay. Gone or those days when patients after big abdominal operations needing large doses of injectable pain killers , tied down to the hospital bed for days together.

Those were the days about 20 - 15 years ago when laparoscopic surgery has just come into India. There was a lot of resistance from the senior surgeons. There wer raging debates on the lack of tactile sensation in lap surgery and also the lack of open surgical experience in young surgeons taking up lap surgery.

20 years down the line all those apprehensions are unfounded. Day by day with imroving optics and improving technology lap surgery throws open newer advantages and newer indications. There's hardly any abdominal operation now that cannot be done by laparoscopy. The recovery is so dramatic that the hospital stay has been reduced drastically. Patients get back to work early.

Minimal access surgery is nothing short of magic.
