Somiya Rao, a young girl in her early twenties who works as a journalist for a leading publication in Delhi turns into a couch potato after coming back from work. Her night time is packed up with partying, watching movies, eating out, surfing the net or talking over the phone.
For her it is normal to go to bed at 1.00 or 2.00 a.m. Life for us is indeed hectic. And we are always on a roll. This results in tremendous mental and physical stress. In today’s stress-filled world we can’t seem to hit the bed and zoom into a world o dreams. We who are stuck in the rigmarole of life are surely heading towards insomnia because they have lost the rhythm. We have forgotten to breathe properly and eat on right time. Though things are changing for good, but work culture in the city stresses us. Breath is the carrier of ‘prana’, the life energy. If our breath is not deep enough, we become unsettled as the body cannot throw the toxins out of the system. Our minds get crowded with unnecessary thoughts which keep bothering us even when it is time to sleep.
In the middle of all the stress that we go through, we tend to let go of the core activity of the day that is ‘sleep’. People especially in the cities work without a pause, have late dinners, have to attend innumerable office parties and they hit the bed when their tummy is full. This is absolutely unhealthy.
We often wake up in low mood, angry and irritated. The main cause of this is lack of sleep or no sleep. Though you will win a lot of brownie points at your work place, but remember health is wealth. Sleep deprivation causes irritability, inability to concentrate, headaches and increased risk of accidents while driving. Lack of sleep spoils the immunity system making us prone to diseases.
