Laparoscopic incisional hernia repair is a surgical stunt with poor results.

This technique does not address the remanant skin bulge which remains and allows fluid to accumulate.

The mesh is just kept lightly under the defect fixed either by sutures taken laparoscopically or by tackers which cannot match the strength and finesse of open technique.

Patients usually complain of the residual bulge. Thus the cosmetic outcome is poor. The recurrence rate with big hernias done by lap technique is very high.

Managing adherent sac contents in long standing ventral hernias is difficult and dangerous by lap technique.

It is therefore advisable to undergo open surgery by an expert surgeon for incisional hernias.
