The incidence of road traffic accidents is increasing everyday. There are many causes for it. Top on the list is poor quality of roads for which the civic authorities are to be blamed.

It is seen that one third to almost one half of the road width is always lying wasted as it is either dug up or kept unrepaired. The next cause is an increase in the two and three wheeler population on the roads. The drivers of these vehicles are the most indisciplined of the lot and refuse to follow any traffic rules. Their vehicles have poor machinery making them the most vulnerable to traffic accidents, causing unnecessary nuisance to both pedestrians and motorists. The final cause is  the indiscriminate use of mobile phones while driving. This is as dangerous as drunken driving. Therefore improvement of roads, strict rules for two and three wheeler drivers and banning the use of mobile phones while driving will help in significantly reducing the incidence of lethal accidents.
