Recent news in times of India that there is a move to increase number of medical colleges, both in private and publick sector. Already it is a tragedy that Deemed universites have throughly cheated the Nation by selling the education to children of business men with black money. The examination is usually a mere formality, students with blank papers too pass thanks to the power of money.
If any teacher wishes to excericse any discipline they are thrown out, so it is on the whims of the mangement. There are few colleges in the country with designated staff and there is a huge shortage of teachers - 1400 anatomy teachers are required but only 900 teachers are available. Increasing colleges means need for more teachers too - has MCI given any thought to this.
We are also reading in the news papers that the govt/ MCI is planning to increase the retirement age of medical teachers to 70 years from existing 65, and increase the seats to 250 in many medical college, At present we have several fit for nothing elderly teachers who are totally incompetent. Extensions like this shpuld be merit based and not just a blanked extension.
No point blaming Dr ketan Desai for being corrupt - he was born and grown out of the corrupt system and if this trend continues it will ruin our Nation medical educatuion. Doctors will pass with no morals or ethics - some will want ot earn the high capitation fees they pay as fast as possible and for this they will resort ot all sorts of ways, many of them will also have poor knowledge and patients in the end will suffer.
