Many of us fall into the habit of thinking negative in life. However this is not right and it is best to realize that life is a bed of thorns and roses, it is purely in our hands to think whether we want to savor the roses being positive or curse the thorns that is the negative aspect of things. Yes, life has ups and downs and one who learns to accept both of them can always be positive in life. Yes, view the world positive by substituting positive thoughts for negative thoughts in life and lead a happy and healthy life.

The first step to substituting positive thoughts for negative thoughts lies in overlooking minor failures and viewing the whole picture. Some children who are scolded for small faults start believing that their parents do not love them. However if they look at the whole picture they would find that their parents do love them, care for them, but also take the liberty to scold them for their faults to improve them. Similarly grown up children may at times scold their parents for something that they are adamant about in old age, which could harm them; it is best to view this also as the concern of ones children rather than the feeling that they are just ill-tempered.

Yes, it is quite right. You have to substitute positive thoughts for negative ones when you are nervous about appearing in an important exam or attending an important seminar or meeting. It is bett er to decide to change the lens you look from at the world. Rather than think, I do not know how I will fare in the exam if I get a question out of the topics I did not prepare it is best to think I will do my best in the topics I have prepared and try to do my best in all I know in other topics. In a similar way instead of thinking you are not well prepared for a meeting or seminar it is best to think you will do well in all you prepared and that other speakers are nervous and can commit mistakes also.

It is best to always believe that every coin has 2 sides; so also every incident. Most of us suffer from a complex at some time of our life and assume that people only think negative of us or that people purposely avoid us.  We all gather negative thoughts assuming we know what others are thinking. Say we go for a party or to witness a play in an auditorium. We may see some of our friends, but they may just miss seeing us or may be having something important to attend to at that time. It is wrong to think negative that the person has purposely avoided us. It could be that they just missed seeing us and did not neglect us purposely. This makes for substituting positive thoughts for negative ones.

Yes, it is quite wrong to assume that whatever happens to us happens for the wrong. We need to substitute positive thinking for negative thinking here also and assume that every coin has 2 sides. Suppose your mother-in-law comes to visit you and she is real haughty and opinionated, it is best to substitute positive thinking by changing ones thinking and saying to oneself, it is time I get to know her better and build positive and fruitful relationships with her. Also it is good to assume that the children are going to be happy to have grandma around and you can relax a bit while grandma engages them.

However in spite of ones good intentions and thinking one may sometimes not be able to be positive in ones thoughts and actions. They may know very well that substituting positive thoughts for negative thoughts makes one happy and healthy in life; cognitive therapy given by therapists and psychologists may help one get over thought distortions and lead a happy and productive life. Cognitive Therapy helps one to get over thought distortions as viewing thoughts as altogether bad or altogether good and not in between, being very happy or very depressed and so on. Recognizing and correcting these distortions make for a happy and healthy life.
