Mosquito bites affect everyone differently. Some people have minimal itching and recover quickly. At the same time others might have bites that swell up and remain swollen and itchy for days together. Here are two simple home remedies for treating mosquito bites.

Toothpaste-

Applying toothpaste is a traditional remedy for relieving the itching due to mosquito bites. Peppermint flavored toothpastes work best for this purpose. The action of toothpaste on mosquito bites is because of the cooling effect of peppermint.

Using toothpaste for mosquito bite-

Dab a little toothpaste on the mosquito bite. Repeat as often as required.

Onion-

Onion slices are a commonly used method for reducing the swelling and itching caused due to a mosquito bite. This works well if it is applied right away. Reapplications are necessary later.

Using onion for mosquito bite-

Slice an onion and immediately apply this freshly cut onion on the swelling. This method does not work as well if you use onions that were sliced earlier.

Sprinkle some salt on the inside side of the sliced onion and press this onion against the bite.

If you desire to leave the onion in place for a long time, then use a first aid tape to keep it in place for several hours. Remove the onion when the bite stops itching and is no longer swollen.
