The rising temperature causes dehydration of the body. It also slows down the process of digestion, causes weakness and takes its toll on the overall health of the individual. Therefore it is important to take care of your health during this period.

Here are few guidelines regarding your diet during summer-

Instead of having two heavy meals, have 5-6 small meals. Opt for food which is light but nutritious at the same time and easy to digest.

During summers food gets spoiled easily therefore have freshly prepared home cooked food. Avoid spicy and oily food.

Avoid drinking ice-cold water. Avoid drinking water immediately after coming home from the sun.

Due to excessive heat it is very tempting to eat ice-candy but it has been seen that the process how ice is prepared on a mass scale is very unhygienic and therefore there is always a risk of communicable diseases after eating such road side drinks or ice-candy.

Before stepping out in the sun you can have buttermilk, jaljeera or sherbet. It will keep your body hydrated. Always carry a bottle of water with you and have a sip of water every half an hour to avoid dehydration.

Do mild form of exercises during summers. Drink small-small sips of water while exercising. Otherwise excessive sweating leads to loss of fluid from the body and eventually causes dehydration.

Include lots of fruits and green vegetables in your diet. Having onion is also good during summers. Instead of having dry-fruits prefer to eat fresh fruits.

Avoid having cold drinks while travelling. The color and the preservatives that are used while preparing cold drinks are not good for health. Also these drinks have higher sugar content.

Avoid drinking excessive tea or coffee. Instead drink coconut water, sherbets, fresh fruits juices, soups, milk or soya milk etc.
