Chronic sinusitis is when you have repeated or prolonged inflammation of sinuses- the spaces behind the forehead, nose and cheeks and in between the eyes. Humidity, high pollution levels, viral infections, allergies, fungal infections are the main causes for sinus.
Daily sneezing, waking up with a heavy head, nasal congestion, stuffiness and fatigue are the symptoms of sinusitis. Sinusitis can be treated by spraying saline nasal spray into your nose several times a day to clear the nasal passage. Sprays that contain corticosteroids help to prevent and treat inflammation. Learn the correct breathing to prevent sinus. Consult a doctor before practicing yoga for sinusitis. Pranayam or breathing exercises are used to treat sinusitis. These will make you healthy from within and also increase your energy level.
One should practice breathing exercises in a well ventilated house. Anulom Vilom Pranayam which reinforces the concept of expanding vitality through breathing helps a lot to prevent bouts of sinusitis. Chanting “Om” is also good to prevent sinusitis.
Steam inhalation helps to reduce nasal congestion. Breathe in steam vapours by draping a towel over your head as you breathe in the vapour from a bowl of medium –hot water. Take a hot shower that will give you relief from body ache and also help in draining out the mucus. Drink plenty of fluids that will liquefy the mucus secretion.
Take as much rest as possible. Do not drink alcohol because alcohol will worsen the swelling of the lining of sinuses. Avoid consumption of cold food and beverages and stop taking cold shower because that might aggravate the problem. Do not smoke and avoid air pollution.
