We all have to go through this painful phase of menopause. It will bring about depressing physical and mental condition. Many of my colleagues are going though this and they have to say that it is absolutely painful. But I feel that one should prepare herself beforehand because it is all a part of growing up and becoming a wiser woman.
Women have a lot of wrong idea about menopause. It does not involve many years of physical and mental suffering as many think it to be. There are women who have to say that it works well with treatment. Menopausal sufferings can become painful with night sweats, sleepless nights and fatigue.
HRT or the Hormone Replacement Therapy will replenish the shortage of hormones, which in turn relieves menopausal complaints like hot flushes and vaginal dryness. HRT is available in the form of tablets and creams. HRT has a lot of side effects and long term use can lead to heart attacks, stroke, breast and uterine cancer. HRT is not at all advisable for women who have a family history of breast cancer, high blood pressure and high blood cholesterol. HRT is advisable to be taken only for a short period and only if her normal life is being hampered because of her sufferings.
Before going for HRT, PAP smear, mammography and pelvic sonography should be done. Simple exercises, yoga and meditation are effective ways of getting rid of menopausal pains. Menopause can be a source of stress. It is important to deal with stress in a meaningful way. All women should train their mind in such a way that everyone goes through menopause and that men also go through andropause. Mood swings and depression happens because of work stress and arguments at home and it is high time that we stop blaming it on menopause.
We should maintain a healthy diet and go for regular exercise so that our body is better equipped to deal with menopause. Family members should also be cooperative with menopausal women.
