Colors like music, communicate feelings, emotions and moods. They are everywhere around you, uplifting, depressing, joyful, disturbing or relaxing.

I make it a point to consciously select the color of clothes and jewellery that I wear each day. If I happen to reach out for clothes out of sheer convenience, I quickly make a conscious effort to wear the specific color that I have in mind on that particular day. It cheers me up and boosts my energy levels.

Similarly, I change the color of the furnishings in my house frequently, and don’t let them become an eyesore. If you are in the mood for pinks and purples in a room on a certain day, get those colors out and enjoy the ambience that they exude!

Have you ever wondered why trees and plants are green in colour, or the sunlight yellow? The color green is supposed to give you peace of mind. Yellow on the other hand, improves memory (you clearly remember what you see in yellow sunlight, don't you?) Similarly, pink eases tension and helps you sleep, while orange gives you appetite and energy.

The ancient text Vastu Shastra prescribes specific colors for homes to promote prosperity, good health and well-being. Here are some tips that you can try out:

Paint the living room yellow, blue, green, or beige. This is a space where you intend to entertain guests and the above said colors promote friendships and positive environments.

The dining room should be painted orange, peach, pink, or green to increase appetite.

The kitchen should be painted white because it is an area of cleanliness and purity. It should also have red and blue in the form of utensils or decorations, as these colours symbolize fire.

The prayer room should preferably be yellow in color, followed by sandalwood, blue, red, or green. These colors give the worshipper peace and focus.

The bedroom should be pink, light green, light blue, or yellow. These colors lend tranquility and promote good sleep.

The bathroom should again be white because it signifies cleanliness of the body and mind. Shades of pink and light grey can sometimes be used in bathrooms.
