Cervical cancer is the cancer of the mouth of the uterus (womb). It is the number one cause of cancer related deaths amongst women in India!!!
Most cervical cancer is caused by a virus called human papillomavirus, or HPV which is transmitted sexually.
Reduce your chances of developing cervical cancer by:
- Getting annual Pap smears to screen for early cervical cell changes that can lead to cervical cancer. If abnormal cervical cells are detected, they can be treated before they become cervical cancer.
- Getting vaccinated against HPV at earliest (10-45 years of age).
- Not smoking
- Practicing safer sex, such as using condoms and limiting the number of sex partners you have.
- Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables which are high in antioxidants, carotenoids, flavonoids, and folate. They help the body fight HPV infection and prevent cervical cancer.
