Text book answers to this question is Nutritional and in case of women menstrual blood loss combined with nutritional. My question is, if it is nutritional then why it takes too long even after iron and b complex supplements. And, secondly, why it improves faster once TB, UTI, Sinusitis and recurrent GI infections are controlled and also when worms are eliminated. Therefore, in India, and many other tropical countries, the commonest cause of anemia is infection and infestation. Hand Hygiene, Food Hygiene, Water Hygiene are important LOW COST practices that can ensure better health. Therefore, just treating anemia is not enough. Patient must be probed on these issues and helped.
