Alternative medicine is a greatly emerging field in the recent years.

Medical science has grown tremendously with the passing time and huge changes are seen in the techniques of diagnosis and treatment so as to help in creating a healthy society. But as we say, it all comes down to the roots.

The ancient texts and scriptures show how our ancestors used to heal and treat patients by using herbs, preparing simple decoctions, using light, making changes lifestyle and dietary habits and achieving positive results. The use of these methods today in place of conventional medicine has given rise to a new field termed as Alternative medicine.

Conventional medicine is not merely a different word for alternative medicine. Alternative medicine is the use of old healing methods such as naturopathy, herbal healing, traditional Chinese medicine etc in place of conventional modern medicine whereas complementary medicine refers to the use of these different healing methods along with the modern medicine so as to achieve complete balance.

Integrative medicine is simple the use of both alternative and complementary healing methods under the same category.

A cloud of controversy still hangs above these medicinal methods. Some critics argue that complementary medicine is all placebo, that is, the treatments work simply because the patients want them to, and that they have no healing value of their own.

Complementary practioners use a range of techniques to diagnose the root cause of your illness or imbalance. Tongue and pulse diagnosis used centuries ago by ayuvedic therapists are still being used today.

Iris diagnosis known as iridology is a form of diagnosis in which the practitioner examines the colored part of your eye-iris, to identify some signs corresponding to some illnesses. Kinesiologists use muscle testing as apart of their examination. Energetic diagnosis involves examination of the aura or human magnetic field.

Acupressure, acupuncture, Japanese medicine, ayurveda, color therapy, chakra balancing, energy medicine, applied kinesiology, aqua deter, magnet therapy, hydrotherapy, herbal remedies, aromatherapy, Bach flower remedies, dowsing, feng shui, crystal healing, homeopathy, hot stone massage, hypnotherapy, iridology, kinesiology, laughter therapy, music therapy, osteopathy, naturopathy, neuro-linguistic programming, psychic healing, thought field therapy, reflexology, reiki, shamanic healing, shiatsu, yoga, tai chi and zero balancing are just a few to name the various sub units of complementary medicine.

Using these forms of medicine can help you connect to your true self and achieve peace of mind so as to ensure a healthy life. Many people have tried and tested using these therapies with amazing success.
