Ahmedabad located in western India is thickly populated with 5 million population. 2.3% of the population donate blood. Roughly 166000 units of blood collected annually in Ahmedabad alone. It is believed that about 50% of the population donates blood voluntarily. Prathama alonge meets 50% city blood requirement through voluntary blood donors. It is time to thank all the voluntary blood donors this year.
Prathama Blood Centre is Celebrating 14th June 2012 World Blood Donor Day by Awarding 25 time voluntary non-remunerated blood donors with Silver Medal and Certificate. This year there are 72 such voluntary regular blood donors who will receive such Award. These are the regular voluntary blood donors who donate blood at Prathama every 3 months or 4 months. Such voluntary donors are real lifeline of the society. Prathama felicitates such donors on this day.
Besides there are events scheduled at 3 places in the city. Himalaya Mall, Info City and Prathama where voluntary blood donors celebrate this day with rewards and appreciation to leaders in voluntary blood donation movement. About 10,000 voluntary donors are invited to join the event at these places through SMS and mailers. Special Banners, Posters developed to give huge publicity to the event. This time Tata Consultancy Services, Himalaya Mall, Cookie Man,Bata, Lions Club of Ahmedabad South,Jagat Pharma joined the celebrations.
About 2500 institutions/organizations regularly do drives with Prathama through out the year. Some of them do twice every year and some do once a year. Youth groups, corporate houses, relegious groups, housing societies, factories, industries, traders, business associations they all conduct voluntary drives with Prathama. This makes Prathama the one and only destination for quality blood banking in Ahmedabad.
Most of the blood donors who donate blood with Prathama are assured of blood when they need. This assurance is given to all blood donors for past 12 years. There are about 300,000 blood donors in Ahmedabad and every blood donor has donated at least once at Prathama, thus making it the largest blood bank in India with huge database of voluntary blood donors.
