Did you know that there are foods that are exclusively meant for adults and kids should not even try it? Feeding kids too much of cookies, biscuits and breads may affect their physical and mental growth. It can lead to even diabetes, cancer and heart problems. Be careful when you pick up a packet of biscuit or cookies from the shop. Check out on the ingredients. Sometimes it is written in very small print that these products should not be given to kids. In spite of the companies knowing that these products are harmful for kids they push their products and in the process of doing so they don’t even think twice how it can damage the health of kids.

Too much of sugar intake can make a child hyperactive. Salt too should not be consumed in excess. If a child is consuming too much of food that is not recommended for kids it can play havoc with a kid’s health. It can make them either fat or very thin. Both of which are not signs of good health. Children who are in the age group of four and six do not require more than 1005 mg of sodium. So popcorns, processed food, chips, salty cookies, Maggie should be given in limitations or completely avoided.

Parents should take care of the diets of growing kids. Children require a well balanced diet consisting of proteins, vitamins, minerals, fats and carbohydrates. Sugar or salt should not be either very high or even very low in a child’s diet. Sugar free biscuits, chocolates, soft drinks and juices which are for diabetic patients should not be given to kids.  Fibre rich food like oats and ragi should not be given to kids as they cannot absorb the rich fibre in it. At the same time refined flour should be given in limitation. Best is to stick to whole grain wheat. Food rich in refined sugar, refined flour, preservatives, salt and caffeine should be kept away from children till the age of eight.

Diet milk, skimmed milk, low calorie cookies, chocolates, sweet cup noodles, diet drinks, frozen food should not be given to kids. Growing children need a certain amount of fat in their food, but remember that should be healthy calories. Artificial colours found in lollypops and chewing gums should be completely avoided.
