All in the Mind-Virtual Gastric Band
Ever doubted the prowess of your mind? A recent English episode once again proves that ‘it’s mind over matter’ even when it comes to tackling a weight problem!
Recently the media showcased the story of a 59 -year old woman who experienced massive weight loss after she was hypnotized to believe that she had a gastric band fitted inside her.
Kaye Linley of West Yorkshire was a record 144 kilos when she got admitted to a Elite clinic in Marbella, Spain for the novel treatment.
Her therapists used a combination of Hypnosis and Cognitive Behavior Therapy to take her through a ‘virtual tour’ of the gastric band operation during which an imaginary gastric band was fitted to her.
During the procedure, an array of ‘smells’ associated with the hospital ward, OT and recovery room were allowed to waft into the room to simulate a professional health set-up.
Kaye was conditioned to believe by her therapists that she would only be able to eat small portions of food. This worked wonders for her! She lost a good 6 stones in five months– a move which also enabled her to completely overcome her type 2 diabetes.
Another great news was that Kaye was able to drop six dress sizes. This was indeed commendable for someone, whose sheer size made mobility was a problem.
To avail of the benefits of a surgery without actually going through one can be described as a near wonder! Now if the benefits border on the cosmetic, besides being life –saving, it may be considered a double – whammy!
Sustaining what she gained through her ‘loss’ would be influenced by Kaye’s perseverance. But for now, the English Lady is one happy woman!
